Arts and America at 250! 🇺🇸🎨 Two panels at the University of Chicago about art, politics, and the people who shape cultural institutions.

Some interesting points! Cultural institutions should create opportunities for artists at ALL levels, rather than focus only on excellence. And in art, being authentic matters more than being universal.

And one thing I see differently: I don’t see difficult times as lost years! I think crises can bring out extraordinary creativity and produce some of the most powerful art.

Academic Freedom in the Era of Trump at the University of Chicago.

An interesting discussion with Mary Anne Franks, Randall Kennedy and Aziz Huq, moderated by Geoffrey Stone, about intellectual pluralism, university autonomy and the limits of federal power.

I was hoping for a little more discussion of yesterday’s election results, but the conversations at the reception more than made up for it! 😄

Kenzi Shiokava's wooden totems at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago! ❤️
Magic, power, fertility, rituals… Wood grain, shells, pieces of discarded materials brought back to life. There's a whole cycle of nature in these sculptures.
The museum's staircase deserves some attention too! 😍

“Nonhuman Creation: AI Art” with Patrick Jagoda at the University of Chicago Divinity School!
AI meets theology! 😂 And the speaker has turquoise hair!!! 🩵
One of his points: When photography came along, everyone thought it would kill art. Well, it didn't! So maybe AI is just another chapter in art history?
And I wonder what Michelangelo would think about all this! 😂

teamLab: Everything Exists in Infinite Continuity at the Smart Museum of Art. What an incredible exhibition! 😍🩵
Forget the boundaries between art and you! Colors, movement, light, and an ever-changing relationship between the artwork and the viewer.
My fascination with immersive art goes back to my time at the Academy of Fine Arts. Infinity and interactivity have always fascinated me, both as artistic concepts and as experiences.
The exhibition was accompanied by a conversation with Sohee Hong from teamLab and curator Allison Martino about the creative process behind the works.
